- Trump slams Musk’s “America Party” as “ridiculous,” insisting the two-party system works just fine.
- Musk fires back with a third-party launch, claiming 65% of users want out of the “uniparty” system.
- Former allies now at odds, as Trump defends tradition and Musk pushes for political disruption.
President Donald Trump didn’t mince words when asked about Elon Musk’s newly announced “America Party.” Speaking to reporters before boarding Air Force One in New Jersey, Trump brushed off the idea of a third party as unnecessary and confusing.
“I think it’s ridiculous to start a third party,” Trump said. “We have a tremendous success with the Republican Party. The Democrats have lost their way, but it’s always been a two-party system, and I think starting a third party just adds to confusion. It really seems to have been developed for two parties. Third parties have never worked, so he can have fun with it, but I think it’s ridiculous.”
Musk’s “America Party” announcement came after a falling out with Trump over government spending and leadership direction. Once a top donor to Trump’s 2024 campaign, Musk criticized the president’s domestic spending plans, warning it would spike the national debt. He pledged to oppose lawmakers who supported the legislation.
On Saturday, Musk revealed the new party after conducting a poll on X (formerly Twitter), claiming 65% of users supported breaking free from the “uniparty” structure dominated by Republicans and Democrats.
Trump later posted on social media, saying he was “saddened” to watch Musk “go completely off the rails.”
While Trump stands firm on preserving the traditional two-party system, Musk is betting there’s an appetite for political disruption—especially among Americans frustrated with both major parties. Whether this sparks a real movement or fizzles out remains to be seen.
