On Tuesday, rising Republican Congressman Byron Donalds appeared on Fox News Channel’s “Hannity” and announced that he is running for governor of Florida in 2026. This will put him in direct challenge of current Florida Governor Ron DeSantis.
Donalds commended DeSantis on how he has run the state, but there are things that he wants to change. The congressman explained that wants to address insurance issues within the state, wants to build on the environmental work that DeSantis has done, and would also consider adding cryptocurrency to Florida’s financial portfolio.
He noted that he also pushed for parents to have the right to examine material in public schools while he served in the state legislature, honorably mentioning his voting record in the state legislature and Congress as well.
Despite taking on such a big campaign, Donalds assured constituents that he will not be giving up his seat in Congress for the gubernatorial race.
Donalds posted to X shortly after, “I arrived in the Sunshine State at 17 years old on a Greyhound bus, with a trunk full of clothes and a dream. Now is the time to keep the best state in the country as the best state in the country. Tonight, I am proud to announce my candidacy to be the next governor of Florida.”
