Revving Up the Red, White & Blue: Ford’s $5B Made-in-America Push

Key Takeaways:

  • Massive U.S. Investment: Ford is pumping $5 billion into plants in Kentucky and Michigan, creating 4,000 American jobs and reinforcing its commitment to domestic manufacturing.
  • Revolutionary Manufacturing: The company is replacing the traditional assembly line with an “assembly tree” method, cutting production time by 40% and reducing costs without outsourcing overseas.
  • Affordable American EV: Ford’s new midsize electric pickup — starting at about $30,000 — is designed to undercut foreign competitors, keep supply chains in the U.S., and put more Americans behind the wheel of homegrown innovation.

Ford is doubling down on American manufacturing—and doing it with a twist that would make even Henry Ford raise an eyebrow.

On Monday, CEO Jim Farley told FOX Business’ “Varney & Co.” the automaker will invest a massive $5 billion into plants in Kentucky and Michigan to roll out a brand-new electric pickup and advanced LFP prismatic batteries. The move will create 4,000 jobs and, more importantly, keep production right here in the United States.

This isn’t just another EV launch. Farley says the midsize four-door truck—set to start at around $30,000—will be cheaper than a Tesla or imported hybrid, offering a made-in-America alternative to foreign competitors. “We didn’t want to build this in South Korea or Japan,” Farley stressed. “We had to take a completely radical approach to redesign the vehicle to make it affordable and profitable here in Kentucky.”

Ford is also reinventing the assembly line—literally. Instead of one long conveyor belt, the new “assembly tree” will build three major sections simultaneously, cutting production time by 40% while lowering costs and labor requirements.

Set to hit the market in 2027, Ford’s “electric, fun-to-drive and digitally advanced” truck represents not just an industry innovation, but a strategic win for American jobs, energy independence, and manufacturing dominance.
