Canada Bends Knee to Trump, Drops Energy Export Tariffs

0

Days after threatening to vowing to impose tariffs on electricity exports (or cutting off energy exports completely) to the United States, Ontario Premier Doug Ford announced Tuesday afternoon that Canada will suspend the 25% surcharge.

Tuesday’s announcement came on the heels of President Donald Trump threatening to impose a 50% tariff on Canadian steel and aluminum imports if they did not back down.

Trending Politics reports:

Ford made the announcement in a joint statement with U.S. Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick, revealing that Ontario had agreed to lift the surcharge on electricity exports to Michigan, New York, and Minnesota. The statement also confirmed that Ford would meet with Lutnick and U.S. Trade Representative officials in Washington on March 13 to discuss revisions to the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA) before the April 2 tariff deadline.

The swift reversal from Ontario follows a heated exchange between Trump and Canadian officials. Earlier in the day, Trump posted on Truth Social that he was imposing an additional 25% tariff on Canadian steel and aluminum, bringing the total to 50%, in direct retaliation to Ontario’s electricity surcharge.

Trump also blasted Canada’s long-standing protectionist policies on U.S. dairy imports, calling them “outrageous” and demanding immediate action to eliminate tariffs ranging from 250% to 390% on various American agricultural products.

“If other egregious, long-time tariffs are not likewise dropped by Canada, I will substantially increase, on April 2nd, the tariffs on cars coming into the U.S., which will, essentially, permanently shut down the automobile manufacturing business in Canada,” the president declared. “Those cars can easily be made in the USA!”

Trump also expressed concerns about national security and the United States relying on foreign energy. This prompted him to announce that he will soon declare a  “National Emergency on Electricity” due to the “abusive threat from Canada.”

Funny enough, Ford claimed that Trump’s increase on steel and aluminum tariffs were an “unprovoked attack” on Canada…..says the same man who threatened to cut off electricity for millions of Americans.

“We will not back down. We will be relentless. I apologize to the American people that President Trump decided to have an unprovoked attack on our country, on families, on jobs. And it’s unacceptable,” Ford said during an MSNBC interview.

“You see the market tumbling. Consumer confidence is down,” he added. “And if he continues on with this, assembly plants in Michigan will shut down, and around the country, whoever makes autos, and as well as businesses, they’re going to hurt.”

RFK Jr. Demands ‘Radical Transparency’ in Food Supply — ‘We’re Poisoning Ourselves’

On Monday, Secretary of Health and Human Services Robert F. Kennedy Jr. appeared in Fox News Channel’s “Hannity” and vowed “radical transparency” in our food supply before he leaves office, in order to “Make America Healthy Again.”

One of the big points Kennedy touched on was the use of toxic seed oils and the impact it is having on the general health of Americans.

“[E]xplain the difference between seed oil and tallow and why this is a big deal, why they said we are going to RFK Steak ‘N Shake?” host Sean Hannity began.

“Well, you know, processed foods and seed oil is one of the components of processed foods,” Kennedy answered. “And that is, you know, all the science indicates that ultra-processed foods are what are behind — the principal culprit. And it’s an extraordinary explosion, the epidemic we have of chronic disease. When my uncle was president, 3% of Americans had chronic disease. Today, 60% do. We have 66% of adults are diabetic or pre-diabetic, 38% of teens. When you and I were kids, Sean, the average pediatrician would see one case of juvenile diabetes in his lifetime, over a 40 or 50-year career. Today, one out of every three kids who walks to his office store is diabetic or pre-diabetic.”

“Diabetes and other mitochondrial diseases are now costing America more than our military budget,” he continued. “We spend two to three times on healthcare what other countries do, and we have the worst outcomes. And it’s not — and we have the best medical system in the world. We are poisoning ourselves and it’s coming from you know principally these ultra-processed foods and what we’re trying to do, and this President Trump wants us to have radical transparency and to incentivize companies like this one to switch to traditional ingredients like beef tallow.”

Wisconsin Lawmakers Propose Ending Daylight Saving Time

0

As reported by Center Square:

This past weekend could be the last time people in Wisconsin could have to spring forward.

A pair of Republicans at the statehouse in Madison are proposing an end to Daylight Saving Time.

Rep. Nate Gustafson, R-Fox Crossing, and state Sen. Rachel Cabral-Guevara, R-Appleton, this week introduced legislation that “eliminates” the idea.

“Research shows the disruption caused by Daylight Saving Times transition can lead to increased risks, workplace injuries, and traffic accidents, as well as negative impacts on mental health and productivity,” the two wrote in their sponsorship memo.

Currently only Arizona and Hawaii don’t have Daylight Saving Time, but more than a dozen other states are considering it.

The National Conference of State Legislatures last year said 20 states have passed laws legislation or resolutions that would end their Daylight Saving Time if Congress ever allows it.

Gustafson and Cabral-Guevara told Wisconsin lawmakers Congress generally doesn’t allow for time change changes, but Wisconsin would be a good candidate.

“Federal law generally preempts states from deviating from standard time or eliminating daylight saving time, but federal law allows a state that lies entirely in one time zone, such as Wisconsin, to observe standard time instead of Daylight Savings Time as long as the observation is throughout the entire state,” the two added as a note from the Legislative Reference Bureau.

Report: Shapiro’s Office Deleted Sexual Misconduct Related Emails

0

As reported by Center Square:

The Shapiro administration’s handling of a sexual misconduct complaint against a cabinet member, and one reporter’s request to know more about the investigation behind it, may cost taxpayers a lot of money.

In a court transcript obtained by The Center Square, an attorney representing the Office of the Governor says the state deleted internal emails sent and received over an eight-day period by a deputy aide in its Legislative Affairs Office who reported the inappropriate behavior.

“That, frankly, should not be surprising that an account of a departed employee would be disposed of in accordance with the records retention schedules,” says Thomas Howell, the administration’s attorney, during a Feb. 12 hearing in Commonwealth Court. “Those retention schedules are public, and they establish that, you know, your general emails are deleted as soon as they’re no longer necessary.”

Thomas Breth, an attorney for Broad + Liberty, said during the hearing that emails from former employees are kept between three and eight years. The ones in question date back only two years.

Shepherd v. Pennsylvania Office of the Governor

The Center Square spoke with one of the attorneys representing the reporter who requested the communications. They said that the “stunning” admission has now generated a request for sanctions against the administration for violating state laws dictating records retention.

The ongoing dispute dates back to late 2023 when the news organization filed a public records request for the emails, along with other internal documents, that were sent between March 2, 2023, and March 10, 2023 – crucially, the last week the aide worked after filing the complaint and resigning.

The complaint alleged Mike Vereb, Shapiro’s former secretary of Legislative Affairs, retaliated against the staffer after reporting his inappropriate comments in February of that same year. Vereb resigned six months later, just weeks before a $295,000 taxpayer-funded settlement became public.

An attorney involved in the proceedings told The Center Square that if sanctions against the administration are imposed, it will have to cover Broad + Liberty’s court fees.

When asked about the issue during a news conference on Tuesday, Gov. Josh Shapiro said he hadn’t read Broad + Liberty’s reporting about it.

“I didn’t read the story and I’m confident my administration follows all document retention policies,” he said.

New State Joins Lawsuit Over DOGE Layoffs

0

As reported by The Center Square:

Add Wisconsin to the list of states suing the Trump Administration over federal layoffs.

Gov. Tony Evers said the state joined with 19 other Democrat-led states to sue over the firings ordered by President Donald Trump and the Elon Musk-led Department of Government Efficiency Department.

“Republicans are messing with lives and livelihoods by recklessly firing federal workers and veterans, making drastic guts to popular programs kids, families, seniors, and farmers depend on, and hurting our kids and our schools by threatening to cut the Department of Education – all to help pay for tax cuts for rich millionaires and billionaires,” Evers said in a statement.

“Our loved ones, friends, and neighbors who have bills to pay and families to feed have been fired for no fault of their own, including veterans, their spouses, and people dedicated to serving our veterans every day, people working to help fight the avian flu, and even people whose jobs are to help keep us safe in dangerous weather,” Evers added in his statement. “Republicans’ actions are wrong, illegal, and bad for our state and our country – that’s why we’re headed to court to try and stop them.”

Maryland’s Democratic attorney general is leading the lawsuit.

“[The] States are suffering significant and irreparable harm caused by the unannounced, unlawful, mass termination of federal employees who work or reside in our jurisdictions. These mass firings were executed illegally, without proper process or the statutorily required notice to [the] States,” the court filing reads. “States are now left to pick up the pieces of the shattered federal workforce – addressing numerous unemployment compensation requests and helping our residents seek new jobs as each new wave of terminations crests. This Court should halt the unlawful firings now.”

Businesses Consider Leaving Illinois in Droves – Here’s Why

0

As reported by The Center Square:

The Illinois Pollution Control Board is considering a proposal to ban most new non-electric vehicle sales in the state by 2035.

Environmental groups have proposed adopting some of California’s vehicle emissions standards, which include phasing out the sale of new gasoline and diesel-powered vehicles and a complete ban on the sale of most new non-electric vehicles in 2035.

National Federation of Independent Business Illinois State Director Noah Finley said small businesses in Illinois overwhelmingly oppose the proposed requirements.

“We did a survey of our small business member earlier this year, and 99% of them oppose the adoption of these new mandates. They’re concerned that it could really have a detrimental impact on their small businesses,” Finley told The Center Square.

The mandates would also impose new testing and emissions standards on new heavy-duty trucks.

Finley said businesses would be forced to operate more large trucks and hire more drivers.

“Employers are already having a hard time finding these drivers. This is going to drive up the cost of transporting goods, and we’re all going to pay more at our local store,” Finley said.

Finley explained that raising the cost of transportation would impact just about every small business.

“That is going to raise costs for them. They’re going to have to pass it on to their customers. That’s bad for the small business, it’s bad for their employees, and it’s bad for their communities at large,” Finley said.

Finley said the regulations would put Main Street businesses in Illinois at a disadvantage compared to those in neighboring states.

“Many of our members have indicated they would consider just moving their business across state lines to avoid these mandates,” Finley said.

More than a dozen people expressed support for the proposed requirements this week with public comments submitted to the Illinois Pollution Control Board via electronic filing.

Activist groups in favor of the stricter vehicle emissions standards include the Sierra Club Illinois Chapter, the Chicago Environmental Justice Network and the Environmental Defense Fund.

A similar proposal failed to advance in 2023.

Evidence presented to the IPCB Tuesday included a study contracted by The Clean Freight Coalition with Roland Berger to examine the added costs to the freight industry and utilities if commercial vehicles reach 100% electrification.

Co-Conspirator Named in Diddy Lawsuit….You’ll Never Guess Who

0

In a new turn of events, a new person has been named in the Diddy lawsuit, and is being accused as being a co-conspirator.

The accused is none other than Maui Police Chief John Pelletier. The very same police chief who gave the order to trap victims in the Lahaina, Hawaii fire.

According to reports, he is believed to have been involved in a gang rape cover-up during his time as a Las Vegas police captain.

Collin Rugg reports:

According to the accuser, Pelletier “posed” as a California sheriff deputy and responded to an alleged gang r*pe.

Pelletier is accused of telling the victim to go home and allegedly gave no medical help.

“She claims Pelletier later took her and another plaintiff at gunpoint to his home, restrained them, refused to let them call an attorney, and made various moves to cover up the kidnapping,” Hawaii News Now reported.

Maui County Mayor Richard Bissen has requested that Pelletier be put on administrative leave during the investigation.

Pelletier has denied all claims, stating that they are fake. However, someone will spill the beans and the truth will come out eventually.

FAFO! Trump Slams Canada with 50% Tariffs After Electricity Threats

Late Monday, President Donald Trump announced that tariffs on Canadian steel and aluminum will be doubling to a whopping 50% following Ontario’s threats to levy a tax on electricity exports to the United States.

“This will go into effect TOMORROW MORNING, March 12th,” Trump declared on Truth Social.

He wrote, “Based on Ontario, Canada, placing a 25% Tariff on “Electricity” coming into the United States, I have instructed my Secretary of Commerce to add an ADDITIONAL 25% Tariff, to 50%, on all STEEL and ALUMINUM COMING INTO THE UNITED STATES FROM CANADA, ONE OF THE HIGHEST TARIFFING NATIONS ANYWHERE IN THE WORLD. This will go into effect TOMORROW MORNING, March 12th.”

Trump then demanded that Canada “immediately drop their Anti-American Farmer Tariff of 250% to 390% on various U.S. dairy products, which has long been considered outrageous. I will shortly be declaring a National Emergency on Electricity within the threatened area. This will allow the U.S to quickly do what has to be done to alleviate this abusive threat from Canada.”

He then warned that if these “long time Tariffs are not likewise dropped by Canada, I will substantially increase, on April 2nd, the Tariffs on Cars coming into the U.S. which will, essentially, permanently shut down the automobile manufacturing business in Canada. Those cars can easily be made in the USA! Also, Canada pays very little for National Security, relying on the United States for military protection. We are subsidizing Canada to the tune of more than 200 Billion Dollars a year. WHY???”

“This cannot continue,” Trump declared, noting that Canada still has a chance to join the land of the free. He wrote, “The only thing that makes sense is for Canada to become our cherished Fifty First State. This would make all Tariffs, and everything else, totally disappear. Canadians’ taxes will be very substantially reduced, they will be more secure, militarily and otherwise, than ever before, there would no longer be a Northern Border problem, and the greatest and most powerful nation in the World will be bigger, better and stronger than ever — And Canada will be a big part of that. The artificial line of separation drawn many years ago will finally disappear, and we will have the safest and most beautiful Nation anywhere in the World — And your brilliant anthem, “O Canada,” will continue to play, but now representing a GREAT and POWERFUL STATE within the greatest Nation that the World has ever seen!
