Sen. Johnson Downplays Need to Reshore Jobs: ‘It’s Not Important’

Senator Ron Johnson tore a few pages out of the liberal playbook, claiming that re-shoring key industries like semiconductors and rare earth minerals is essential—but argues that bringing back labor-intensive manufacturing isn’t realistic, citing a so-called shortage of American workers.

On Wednesday, he appeared on Fox Business Network’s “The Bottom Line” and argued that re-shoring jobs critical to American national security and high value such as “high-end semiconductors, pharmaceutical precursors, the active pharmaceutical ingredients, rare earth minerals” isn’t critical to bring back “high labor content products, that’s gone. And, quite honestly, we don’t have the workers to produce high labor content products.”

Johnson declared that he wants “free and fair reciprocal trade” to be the ultimate outcome of the tariff war and noted that it’s important to have a strategy to re-shore jobs that are critical to our national security.

He said, “I don’t think it’s important to be bringing back high labor content products, that’s gone. And, quite honestly, we don’t have the workers to produce high labor content products. So, we should be producing high-value-added content. So, you want to have a smart strategy for re-shoring the critical products, things like high-end semiconductors, pharmaceutical precursors, the active pharmaceutical ingredients, rare earth minerals, there’s a list of things that we need to concentrate on that we have to re-shore.”

California Filers Face $3,769 Tax Hike if Trump Tax Cuts End

According to a study by the National Taxpayers Union Foundation, the expiration of the 2017 Trump tax cuts could mean a $3,769 tax hike for the average California filer. With families already burdened by a high cost of living and looming tariffs, the added tax pressure could curb consumer spending and ripple through local businesses.

The Center Square reports:

The typical California tax filer’s taxes would rise $3,769 if the 2017 Trump tax cuts expire, a new study says.

The study from the National Taxpayers Union Foundation, a pro-taxpayer organization, analyzed the impact that the expiration of the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act, signed into law by President Donald Trump in 2017, would have on taxpayers on a state-by-state basis.

The TCJA lowered tax rates and doubled the standard deduction, which 90% of tax filers use instead of itemizing their deductions. The child tax credit would also halve from $2,000 to $1,000. As a result, NTUF found that 80% of Americans would face tax hikes if the TCJA is not renewed by the end of 2025.

“Altogether, individual and business taxes would rise by $500 billion annually, reducing U.S. GDP by 1.1% and wages by 0.5%,” wrote NTUF. “Since states benefited from TCJA-driven economic growth and tax base expansions, expiration means facing the opposite trends.”

This tax hike could strain California households already grappling with the state’s high cost of living and potential tariffs, which in turn could reduce consumer spending and impact local businesses.

The NTUF study follows a report from the National Federation of Independent Business finding that the California small business tax rate would surge to 52.9% if the TCJA and its 20% small business tax deduction is not renewed, while the corporate tax rate would be 29.84%.

The NFIB report, conducted by Ernst and Young, found the higher taxes would apply to 4.2 million California small businesses.

The TCJA has insulated small businesses from skyrocketing costs of living and doing business since the pandemic, NFIB California Director John Kabateck told The Center Square. He added that greater losses in private sector employment could impact funding for critical public services.

“We would have seen more people in the unemployment line and small businesses and employers fleeing California. This has proven to give them the ability to stay open and keep operating,” Kabateck said during an interview. “When small business owners thrive, consumers thrive, and so do our public services. If this were to expire, we will see fewer jobs and businesses on Main Street, which means less dollars going to our public coffers.”

Earlier this year, the state-funded Legislative Analyst’s office announced it is projecting lower corporate and sales tax revenue, highlighting the state’s economic weakness.

Jobs data also suggests the state has been in a downturn, with a loss of 149,900 private sector jobs in just the past year.

Planned Parenthood Lawsuit Halts Nevada Abortion Law

A Nevada law requiring parents to be notified when a minor seeks an abortion—originally passed in 1985—has been paused after a federal judge allowed Planned Parenthood to appeal. The law, which does not require parental consent, is now under challenge as Nevadans face a crucial vote on whether to permanently enshrine abortion access in the state constitution.

The Center Square reports:

A long dormant Nevada abortion law requiring minors to notify their parents of an abortion has been put on pause – for now.

The law, which has never been enforced, was set to come into effect Wednesday after a federal judge’s ruling March 31. That move was paused Friday after a different federal ruling granted Planned Parenthood a chance to appeal.

The law, Senate Bill 510, was passed in 1985 and sponsored by Republican state Sen. Ray Rawson. But it was never enforced because an appeals court found it was unconstitutional based on the landmark Roe v. Wade ruling of 1973.

When Roe v. Wade was overturned in 2022 by the U.S. Supreme Court, it opened the door for state-level enforcement of laws such as SB 510.

The law would require a minor’s parents to be told about the youth’s decision before an abortion, but would not require parental approval.

An estimated 18% of national abortions are performed on teenagers, as per a 2016 Guttmacher Institute study. When forced to tell their parents about an abortion, 9% of teenagers would instead conduct the procedure themselves, Stanford University reported

Laws requiring parental notification are present in 36 states. The Nevada bill would have an option for teens to get a court order to authorize the abortion without telling their parents.

U.S. District Judge Anne Traum ruled to postpone enforcement of SB 510 while an abortions-rights advocate group, Planned Parenthood, challenges the law in the San Francisco-based U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit.

At the same time, Nevadans await a major vote to enshrine the right to an abortion in the state constitution.

Voters passed the constitutional amendment in November. If the measure passes again in 2026, it would make a reversal of the right to an abortion on the state level difficult for pro-life advocates.

The constitutional amendment would not change abortion laws or access. Nevada allows for abortions up to 24 weeks into pregnancy, the full second trimester, with extensions for cases that threaten the mother’s life.

Trump: ‘I Could Get Garcia Back from El Salvador, But I Won’t!’

On Tuesday, President Donald Trump sat down with ABC News and revealed that he could tell El Salvador to return Kilmar Abrego Garcia but he’s not going to bother with the hassle.

Trump said, “I’m not the one making this decision. We have lawyers who don’t want to do this,” and “If I were the president that just wanted to do anything, I’d probably keep him right where he is.”

The president noted that he WOULD press the issue if he genuinely thought Garcia was a good person. However, given his gang affiliations and being known as a wife beater….he isn’t.

ABC News Senior National Correspondent Terry Moran said, “You could get him back. There’s a phone on this desk, you could pick it up and with all the power of the presidency, you could call up the president of El Salvador and say, send him back right now.”

Trump responded, “I could. And if he were the gentleman that you say he is, I would do that.”

Moran then butt in to claim that there is a court order.

Trump replied, “I’m not the one making this decision. We have lawyers who don’t want to do this, Terry. … I follow the law. You want me to follow the law. If I were the president that just wanted to do anything, I’d probably keep him right where he is.”

‘Worth it’: Mayor Bass Cheers Sanctuary Status—Even If It Costs L.A. Federal Funds

0

Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass is more worried about protecting illegal immigrants than keeping federal funds for Los Angeles. She says losing taxpayer dollars is ‘worth it’—as long as L.A. stays a sanctuary city. Priorities, right?

Bass said during an interview with NBC4 Los Angeles that aired on Tuesday that jeopardizing federal funding is worth it to her, in order to maintain the city’s status as a sanctuary city – stating that it’s “worth it to protect all Angelenos, regardless of when they got here.”

NBC4 Reporter Karma Dickerson said, “Mayor Karen Bass spent the morning with Veterans’ Affairs secretary, working to secure federal resources for homeless veterans. She says federal funding has been crucial to the Palisades fire recovery.”

The reporter then rolled a clip where she asked the mayor, “Is it worth it to maintain L.A.’s status as a sanctuary city if it risks that funding?”

To which Bass replied, “It is worth it. It is worth it to protect all Angelenos, regardless of when they got here.”

The mayor also claims she doesn’t even know the amount of funding at stake due to most of the funding doing through the state or county first. However, according to reports, it could be hundreds of millions in funding.

Dem Strategist Carville Predicts Doom for Trump—We’ve Heard That One Before

On Tuesday, Democratic strategist James Carville appeared on MSNBC’s “The Beat” and predicted that President Donald Trump’s poll numbers are going to tank in the coming days.”

Carville commented on political analyst Karl Rove’s appearance on Fox News, during which he stated, “When it comes to the economy, this is where it’s a little trickier, and this is where his numbers have gone south.”

Carville said, “So I watch Karl, and he’s exactly right. When you’ve seen a lot of polls like Karl has in his career or I’ve seen or it’s worse than you think when you look at, you know, sometimes you look at a poll and you see some numbers and you go and say, well, this is a little more. It’s across-the-board horrific for him. I think that’s what Karl was trying to say.”

He continued, “Around Labor Day, I think these numbers are going to be even worse because the underlying support for him is even worse than the top-line support for him.”

The anti-Trumper added, “I think people just don’t see — they don’t see a strategy behind it. They don’t see any thought behind it. They just see an impulsive guy going from one unpopular thing to another. We just got to come back in and really, really clock him hard on his legislative stuff. These Republicans know that’s coming. If we just stay unified, stay unified and keep hitting them on that, we’re going to drag that. This 39 is going to turn into 34.”

From Mafia Roles to Gender Rolls: De Niro’s Son Joins the Identity Circus

0

Robert De Niro’s 29-year-old son, Aaron — now going by Airyn — has officially joined the Hollywood trend of coming out as transgender, after starting hormone treatments in 2024.

Born via surrogate with De Niro’s ex-girlfriend, Toukie Smith, Airyn told Them magazine (yes, that’s a real publication name) that transitioning into womanhood was influenced in part by Black women. “Stepping into this new identity, while also being more proud of my Blackness, makes me feel closer to them,” Airyn said — because apparently gender is now a matter of cultural vibes

So…Black women are to blame for his identity crisis? Interesting.

De Niro and Smith, unsurprisingly, have been “supportive” of the transition. Airyn says they kept the kids out of the spotlight growing up — a rare Hollywood parenting win — but now seems eager to be in it, declaring that “being visible and being seen” are two different things. Deep.

Airyn added that the usual beauty standards and identity labels were hard to fit into growing up — not skinny enough, not Black enough, not white enough, not masculine enough, etc. (Welcome to the club, kid — that’s called being human.)

Now, with a fresh name and hormone treatments underway, Airyn hopes to be a beacon for others “struggling with identity.” Because what the world really needs right now is more identity confusion and less reality.

De Niro, a father of seven, including Airyn’s twin brother Julian, hasn’t publicly commented beyond general support. But given Hollywood’s track record, this announcement was probably more expected than shocking.

Amazon Shoots Down Rumors of Tariff Price Tags on Products

0

Amazon denied reports that it was planning to display the cost of Trump-era tariffs alongside product prices. The White House slammed the idea as politically motivated, and Amazon’s stock took a hit following the controversy.

The original report first appeared in Punchbowl News on Tuesday, and stated that Amazon Inc. would start displaying the listed price of a product as well as the price after tariffs are imposed.

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt also slammed the alleged plan as a “hostile and political act.” She asked, “Why didn’t Amazon do this when the Biden administration hiked inflation to the highest level in 40 years?”

Leavitt added, “This is another reason why Americans should buy American.”

Following the remarks, Amazon shares fell over 2% in premarket trading, per CNBC — a rare stumble for Jeff Bezos’ behemoth.

However, Amazon has since issued a response to the report, denying that they ever planned to display additional “tariff pricing” on products.

Just a thought—how about tagging products with “Made in America” so we can proudly buy red, white, and blue instead of red and gold? Then we support USA made AND avoid tariffs – two birds, one stone.

Same Script, New Election: Murphy Accuses Trump of ‘Destroying Democracy’ Like It’s 2016

On Tuesday, Senator Chris Murphy appeared on CNN’s “Anderson Cooper 360” and accused President Donald Trump of “trying to destroy our democracy.”

The Democrat senator shrieked, “We really don’t have the ability to think about the electoral consequences of what’s happening to the country right now. The fact of the matter is, Donald Trump is trying to destroy our democracy so that he can turn the entire government over to his billionaire friends. He’s trying to create a kind of kleptocratic oligarchy where he and his Mar-a-Lago buddies steal from the rest of us. We have to tell that story. I mean, I understand that it’s kind of a popular theme that Kamala Harris shouldn’t have run on protecting democracy. But, you know, if you run on telling the American public that this guy, Donald Trump, is going to destroy the rule of law if he wins, and then you don’t act like it, you don’t tell the truth when he actually tries to convert American democracy to American autocracy, then you lose all of your credibility.”

Murphy added, “So I don’t sit here every day thinking about the political or electoral ramifications of telling the truth. We should just tell the truth, and the truth is the president is trying to destroy our country. The most massive transfer of wealth from the middle class to the rich in the history of the country and the destruction of the rule of law. That’s why his approval ratings are plummeting by the day right now.”
