After months of tough talk and trade tantrums, China might be inching toward the negotiating table. On Friday, Beijing hinted it’s “evaluating” whether to chat with the U.S. about those massive tariffs President Trump dropped like a hammer—including a 145% wallop on Chinese imports. It also made exemptions on nearly a quarter of US imports, on the down low.

According to China’s Commerce Ministry, America’s been making the first move, sending word through “relevant parties” (translation: they’re feeling the pressure). But don’t expect China to admit that—they’re still throwing shade, warning that “coercion and extortion” won’t fly. Cute.

Meanwhile, China’s economy isn’t looking too hot. Deflation, a housing market mess, and now these new tariffs have them sweating. Trump and Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent aren’t backing down either. Bessent told Fox’s Maria Bartiromo he’s “confident” China wants a deal, but it’s gonna take time.

President Trump’s not mincing words either, saying there’s a “very good chance” a deal could happen—but only on U.S. terms. Elite No More: Trump Pulls Plug on Harvard’s Tax Breaks

The Trump administration is moving to take away Harvard’s tax-exempt status after the university refused to make changes to its student programs. Officials say Harvard isn’t doing enough to fix the problems, and taxpayers shouldn’t have to keep giving special breaks to schools that won’t cooperate.

President Donald Trump kicked off Friday morning announcing his administration is revoking Harvard University’s tax exemption status.

In a Truth Social post, the president hit out hard at the prestigious Ivy League university.

“We are going to be taking away Harvard’s Tax Exempt Status. It’s what they deserve!” the president posted to his social media site.

The move comes after the Trump administration froze $2.2 billion in taxpayer-funded federal grants to the school after it refused to comply with the administration’s demands to reform student activities and programs they claim have “egregious records of antisemitism or other bias.”

In turn, the university announced that it filed a suit against the Trump administration, claiming that the administration was violating the school’s First Amendment rights.

Wisconsin Libertarians ‘Absolutely’ Embrace DOGE

The Libertarian Party of Southeast Wisconsin supports efforts by the Trump administration to cut wasteful federal spending. The party maintains that responsible use of taxpayer dollars is a nonpartisan concern and advocates for a smaller, more transparent, and accountable federal government.

The Center Square reports:

Southeast Wisconsin’s Libertarians are on board with DOGE.

The Libertarian Party of Southeast Wisconsinsays it supports the effort in the Trump administration to “weed out waste in the federal government.”

“Clearly, with federal budgets measured in trillions of dollars, there must be waste, fraud and abuse. To assume by default that cannot be the case is simply fantasy. Even the average American’s meager, in comparison, home expenses can have some things wisely whittled away,” the party said in a statement.

President Donald Trump, Elon Musk and the Department of Government Efficiency have spent weeks looking through federal agencies for wasteful spending or wasteful projects.

The New York Times last week reported that Musk now believes he’ll cut $150 billion from the federal government. That’s far less than the $1 trillion he previously set as his DOGE goal.

Still, Southeast Wisconsin’s Libertarians say the effort is more than worth it.

“It is hard to imagine this as a partisan issue. Why would any citizen toiling away with large percentages of their incomes siphoned off by governments not want efficient use of those funds? It is a no brainer,” the Party added Monday. “The Libertarian Party of Southeast Wisconsin absolutely supports the DOGE in its efforts to once again make our federal government accountable to the very citizens from which all of its power comes from.”

DOGE last week told the Times that it has saved $318,310,328.30, so far. There have also been thousands of DOGE-inspired layoffs, though the final number of people who have lost their job is tough to pin down.

Some of the DOGE layoffs have been frozen by federal judges, while other layoffs are still pending.

The Libertarians in Wisconsin said in order to make the United States a government of the people, there needs to be an effort to shrink the power of Washington, D.C.

“So, it is not crazy to make the federal government accountable to its citizens once more!” the party said in its statement.

Ruffin cried, “They were, like, look, you were running your mouth in these streets, and now you can’t host the White House Correspondents’ Dinner, and I was like, oh, no, you know, this is horrible. I was running my mouth, and I was being careless. Then, as the day went on, people were like your free speech has been revoked. How dare they. Then I was like, oh, my God, that’s right, I do have free speech.”

When asked about President Trump’s first 100 days, she said, ““People are saying that Trump did a bad job a hundred days in. I strongly disagree. This man has done everything he has set out to do. I’m black. I’m terrified. I’m scared for my trans friends. And people who we know and love, our neighbors, are disappeared. And that was the goal and he did it. He did it. He did exactly what he wanted to do — because I, you know, feel less welcome in my home than I did, you know, last year. And that’s the goal. That was the goal. This feeling in us is the point.”

U.S. and Ukraine Ink Strategic Agreement on Rare Earth Minerals

The United States and Ukraine have signed a major agreement to share profits from mining rare earth minerals and other valuable resources. President Donald Trump praised the deal, saying it means America is finally getting something in return for the billions sent to Ukraine during the war.

U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent and Ukrainian Deputy Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko signed the deal Thursday night. It creates the United States–Ukraine Reconstruction Investment Fund, a joint project that will support Ukraine’s economy and split any profits evenly between the two countries.

President Trump said the idea came after realizing Ukraine has key materials that are vital for defense, energy, and tech. “They have great rare earths… minerals, materials — things that a lot of places don’t have,” he said. “We get much more, in theory, than the $350 billion [we’ve spent]. I didn’t want to look foolish.”

The road to the deal wasn’t easy. Talks stalled earlier this year when Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky clashed with Trump during a public Oval Office meeting. But last week, the two leaders met at the Vatican and patched things up. Trump later said, “We had a dispute, but he’s in a tough spot. I think he understands the picture now, and he wants to make a deal.”

The agreement is being called a turning point. Secretary of State Marco Rubio, who has pushed for real progress in Ukraine, said: “Thanks to [Trump’s] leadership, the U.S. and Ukraine signed a milestone in our shared prosperity and a step toward ending the war.”

Minnesota Governor Tim Walz revealed during a Harvard University event that Kamala Harris chose him as her vice presidential running mate because he could “code-talk to white guys watching football, fixing their trucks” — a comment that has drawn widespread criticism for being tone-deaf and demeaning.

Speaking at the Kennedy School’s Institute of Politics, Walz told moderator Brittany Shepherd that he was selected for the ticket due to his progressive record in Minnesota, but also because he could act as a “permission structure” for white, working-class men to vote for Harris.

“I knew I was on the ticket… because we did a lot of amazing, progressive things in Minnesota,” Walz said. “But I also was on the ticket — quite honestly — because I could code-talk to white guys… I could put them at ease.”

The remark quickly drew backlash on social media. “I’m a white guy — and have been for 53 years,” Senator Mike Lee (R-UT) wrote on X. “I have no idea what it means to ‘code talk’ to white guys.”

Others called the comment insulting and patronizing. “How demeaning is that?”

Maryland State Delegate Matt Morgan posted. Riley Gaines, a women’s sports advocate, mocked the statement, adding, “Notice he didn’t mention he could code-talk how to load a shotgun hahahaha” — a jab at Walz’s awkward attempt to relate to gun owners during the campaign.

Critics also pointed to a broader problem: the Democratic campaign’s failure to connect with everyday Americans. “Imagine thinking voters are so dumb, they simply need ‘code-talk’ from Walz,” one user commented. “Harris never offered substance and never stood apart from Biden’s disastrous record.”

During the campaign, Walz tried to position himself as relatable to male voters and hunters, but his awkward public moments — including struggling to load a shotgun — raised eyebrows.

This isn’t the first time Democrats have been accused of tone-deaf outreach. A recent ad from leftist group Vote Save America tried to boost Harris’s image with the line: “They’re man enough to fight a bear, eat a carburetor, and elect a woman. How about you?” That too was widely mocked online.
