The tragic event unfolded following his transfer from Mohawk Correctional Facility to Marcy Correctional Facility on December 9. Although the video shows the physical altercation described by CNN as a “fatal beating,” there is no audio available to clarify what led up to the confrontation. This lack of sound leaves many questions unanswered about the moments preceding this tragedy.

The family of Robert Brooks expressed their devastation after viewing the video released by the Attorney General’s Office. They stated, “As expected, watching the horrific and violent final moments of Robert’s life was devastating for his loved ones, and will be disturbing to anyone who views the video.” They remain determined in their quest for justice for Robert’s memory and are advocating for increased safety measures at Marcy Correctional Facility.

This case raises significant concerns about inmate treatment within correctional facilities and calls into question how such incidents can occur under supposed supervision.

Several factors are believed to be driving this increase in homelessness. One of the top contenders to fill Vice President-elect J.D. Vance’s seat in the U.S. Senate recently made a trip to President-elect Donald Trump’s Mar-A-Lago estate, as the decision on who will take over looms. According to Ohio law, Republican Governor Mike DeWine is responsible for appointing a replacement for Vance until 2026. At that time, a special election will be held to determine who will complete the rest of Vance’s term, which ends in 2028. The winner of this election would then need to run again in 2028 to secure a full six-year term.

Governor DeWine is expected to make his decision soon, with the new Congress set to be sworn in on January 3. Earlier this week, DeWine visited Trump’s Palm Beach residence along with Republican Lieutenant Governor Jon Husted, who is considered a leading candidate for Vance’s replacement according to News 5 Cleveland. Dan Tierney, spokesperson for DeWine’s office, mentioned that the governor is looking for someone who is a “workhorse,” qualified and ready to gain Ohio voters’ trust for another term.

In addition to Husted, other names are being discussed as potential candidates. Mehek Cooke, a Republican attorney known for her role as a political and legal surrogate for Trump in 2024 within the pro-Trump state of Ohio, is one such name. Cooke has built a reputation as an effective GOP fundraiser and has defended Trump against politically motivated prosecutions on various media platforms.

Businessman and former presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy was initially seen as a strong contender but was recently appointed to lead a new presidential task force focused on reducing government waste alongside X owner Elon Musk. This appointment seems to exclude him from consideration at present; however, Ramaswamy has shown interest in potentially running for governor in the future.

Other possible candidates include State Senator Matt Dolan—an ally of DeWine who previously ran unsuccessful primary campaigns against Vance and Senator-elect Bernie Moreno—and former Ohio Secretary of State Frank LaRose, who also competed against Moreno in primaries. The state’s Republican Attorney General Dave Yost is another name reported by Fox News as being under consideration.

LaRose commented that while he remains committed to his current duties—ensuring secure elections and addressing federal citizenship records—he stands ready if called upon but trusts Governor DeWine will act in Ohio’s best interest.

‘Friendly Fire’: Incompetent Military Blunder Takes Down Two U.S. Navy Pilots Over Red Sea

Two U.S. Navy pilots were shot down over the Red Sea on Saturday in what the military  is referring to as a “friendly fire incident,” the U.S. Military announced in a statement. Both pilots survived the so-called accidental shoot-down after they successfully from their aircraft, with one of them suffering minor injuries.

The incident comes amidst heightened tensions in the Red Sea due to Iran-backed attacks on shipping in the crucial sea corridor. Attacks have primarily been launched by Houthi rebels, whom have persisted despite the presence of U.S. and European naval assets patrolling the area.

The U.S. Military launched a series of airstrikes against Houthi targets in Yemen on Saturday, though details of the operation have not been provided to the public.

U.S. Central Command announced that the downed aircraft was a two-seat F/A-18 Super Hornet fighter jet assigned to the “Red Rippers” of Strike Fighter Squadron 11 out of Naval Air Station Oceana, Virginia. The F/A-18 had taken off from the deck of the USS Harry Truman aircraft carrier, according to U.S. Central Command.

On December 15, Central Command confirmed that the Truman had deployed to the Middle East, though they did not provide specifics on the particular region. “The guided missile cruiser USS Gettysburg, which is part of the USS Harry S. Truman Carrier Strike Group, mistakenly fired on and hit the F/A-18,” Central Command said in a statement.

It is unclear how the cruiser was able to shoot down the friendly F/A-18, as ships and aircraft in a battle group are linked by radar and radio communication, Fox News reported.

Central Command further announced that U.S. naval assets had shot down several Houthi drones and an anti-ship cruise missile launched by the Iran-backed group. Houthi attacks on U.S. military assets have increased over the last year, forcing sailors to fire back on multiple occasions. Since the start of the Israel-Hamas war, the Houthis have launched attacks on more than 100 merchant vessels in the Red Sea.

On Saturday evening, the U.S. intensified airstrikes on Houthi targets in the Yemeni capital of Sanaa, which has been occupied by the rebel group for more than a decade. Central Command said the strikes targeted a “missile storage facility” and a “command-and-control facility.”
