One of the major promises that helped Donald Trump win the presidency was his commitment to securing America’s borders. Among the numerous issues linked to open borders, one of the most dangerous is the unchecked flow of deadly drugs into the country. A significant threat in this drug crisis is fentanyl.
According to the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration, fentanyl is about 100 times more potent than morphine and is a leading cause of increasing drug overdose deaths in America.
A dangerous threat has emerged in the form of carfentanil, a synthetic opioid 100 times more potent than fentanyl. Originally developed as a large animal tranquilizer, just a few grains can be fatal to humans.

Fentanyl’s danger cannot be overstated, yet there’s an even deadlier substance making its way into the United States—carfentanil. Fox News reported that nearly 70% of all U.S. overdose deaths last year were due to illegally manufactured fentanyls (IMFs), with carfentanil being a particularly lethal variant, reportedly 100 times more potent than fentanyl itself. The CDC highlighted a troubling rise in carfentanil-related deaths, which increased by over 700% from January to June 2023 compared to the same period in 2024.

Carfentanil first appeared on the scene in 2016 but had gone relatively quiet until recently. Its resurgence can be attributed to how easily it can be mass-produced, making it a popular choice among illicit drug manufacturers and users alike. This complicates Trump’s challenging task of addressing America’s opioid crisis.
While current President Joe Biden has adopted an indirect strategy for dealing with this issue, Trump seems determined to confront it directly. As he searches for his ideal DEA leader, Trump has been vocal about needing to tackle both border security and drug trafficking head-on.

Carfentanil isn’t the only frightening development stemming from tampering with fentanyl pills. In May 2023, shocking videos emerged from cities like Philadelphia showing people affected by a new concoction known as “tranq.” This disturbing mixture combines fentanyl with an animal sedative, creating devastating effects on those who use it.
As Trump prepares for his inauguration on January 20, 2025, many Americans impacted by the opioid crisis are likely hopeful for change and solutions under his leadership. Please share your thoughts in the comment section below!
