On Wednesday, NPR CEO Katherine Maher was squirming in her seat after being caught off guard by Rep. Brandon Bill during a Congress hearing regarding whether or not NPR should receive federal funding.
Bill quizzed her on calling for white people to pay “reparations” in posts on social media, to which Maher denied. However, she was forced to swallow the bitter truth pill when Bill whipped out the receipts and started reading her past tweets.
Gill asked, “Do you believe that America is addicted to white supremacy?”
Maher replied, “I believe that I tweeted that. I believe much of my thinking has evolved over the last half-decade.”
Gill pressed, “Do you believe that America believes in black plunder and white democracy?”
Maher answered, “I don’t believe that, sir.”
Gill swooped in for the kill, “You tweeted that in reference to a book you were reading at the time: The Case for Reparations.”
Maher squirmed, “I don’t think I’ve ever read that book, sir.”
Gill clapped back, “You tweeted about it. You said you ‘took a day off to fully read the Case for Reparations.'”
Maher backpedaled, “I apologize. I don’t recall that I did.”

Talk about brutal! I think this short exchange exhibits EXACTLY why we should not be funding NPR.
