California Governor Gavin Newsom finally realized that his best bet is kneel and kiss the MAGA ring.
When a local lawmaker introduced a bill that would bar any local police departments from “honoring a detainer request by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement”, Newsom immediately announced that he would be vetoing the bill.
Interestingly enough, this was just one day after U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi announced that the Justice Department would sue New York state and Governor Kathy Hochul in order to force her hand at complying with federal immigration law.
“This is a new DOJ and we are taking steps to protect Americans,” Bondi said. “It stops today.”

California’s latest immigration legislation is almost identical to a bill filed during the last session, which Newsom said would interfere with “a federal law enforcement agency charged with assessing public safety risks.”
Provisions in the bill would prevent local authorities from sharing an inmate’s release date if ICE sought to intervene after they were set free following a crime. Authorities would also be prohibited from coordinating with ICE to hand over an inmate in custody.
President Trump campaigned on conducting the “largest mass deportation program in history,” and many of California’s localities are ground zero for the crisis. White House border czar Tom Homan has promised to ferret out leaks at the Federal Bureau of Investigation, where he claims word got out that authorities were ramping up to conduct a major raid across Los Angeles later this month.
“Sanctuary cities are putting roadblocks up, we got leaks,” Homan said on Fox News earlier this week. “So, we need to increase the arrests of illegal aliens, especially those with criminal convictions. So, we’re going to continue. So, three times higher is good. The numbers are good. For me, not good enough. We’ve got to get more.”
New regulations allow ICE officials to conduct activities at previously prohibited “sensitive” areas like churches and schools.
The Department of Homeland Security reportedly told Daily Mail, “This action empowers the brave men and women in CBP and ICE to enforce our immigration laws and catch criminal aliens – including murderers and rapists – who have illegally come into our country.”
