Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum has bowed to pressure, announcing that she agreed to deploy 10,000 troops to the U.S. border following a “productive” call with former President Donald Trump.

Sheinbaum shared the following (translated) statement on X, “We had a respectful and constructive conversation with President Trump regarding our relationship and sovereignty. We reached several agreements:
- Mexico will immediately bolster its northern border with 10,000 National Guard troops to combat drug trafficking, particularly fentanyl.
- The United States will work to stop the flow of high-powered weapons into Mexico.
- Our teams will begin joint efforts on two main fronts: security and trade.
- The U.S. has agreed to pause tariffs for one month.”
