Texas Economy Roars: Record Jobs and Labor Force

Key Takeaways:

  • Record-Breaking Growth: Texas added 195,600 jobs in the past year, leading the nation in employment gains.
  • Pro-Business Climate: Governor Abbott’s commitment to cutting red tape and supporting free enterprise is fueling sustained economic expansion.
  • Future Workforce Ready: New legislation expanding technical education ensures Texas students are prepared for tomorrow’s jobs.

Texas is proving—once again—that free markets and limited government drive prosperity. Governor Greg Abbott announced Saturday that the Lone Star State added 195,600 nonfarm jobs over the last year, more than any other state in the country. August alone brought in 17,600 new positions, putting Texas at the top of the heap for job creation.

“Texas is America’s jobs leader,” Abbott declared. “With the best business climate in the nation and a skilled and growing labor force, Texas is where businesses invest, jobs grow, and families thrive.” He’s not wrong. With a labor force topping 15.8 million and more than 15.2 million Texans working—including the self-employed—the numbers don’t lie. Free enterprise and a no-nonsense regulatory environment are keeping the Texas economy red hot.

Abbott is doubling down on his formula for success: cut red tape, empower workers, and let businesses breathe. This week, he appointed Jerome Greener, a longtime advocate for limited government, to lead the brand-new Texas Regulatory Efficiency Office (TREO). The mission? Strip away needless regulations and keep government lean, fast, and accountable.

The Governor also signed House Bill 20 and House Bill 120, which will expand career and technical education for Texas students—building a pipeline of skilled workers ready to power the next generation of economic growth.

At a time when Washington insists more bureaucracy is the answer, Texas is proving the opposite: unleash the private sector, and prosperity follows. That’s the Texas model—and it’s one the rest of the nation should pay attention to.
