Trump Admin Crushes VA Backlog, Expands Care Access

Key Takeaways

  • Historic Claim Processing: VA processed over 2.52 million disability claims by August 8, smashing last year’s record and doing it nearly two months early.
  • Backlog Slashed Under Trump: The backlog of veterans waiting for benefits has dropped 37% since January 20, reversing the 24% increase under Biden.
  • Major Reforms and Savings: From opening new clinics and expanding after-hours care to ending DEI spending and recovering $106 million in duplicate billing, the Trump VA is delivering results with efficiency and accountability.

The Department of Veterans Affairs just shattered records — and it’s happening under President Trump’s watch.

In FY24, VA processed a staggering 2,517,519 disability benefits claims, only to blow past that record in FY25 with 2,524,115 claims issued by August 8 — nearly two months before year-end. Even better, the backlog of veterans waiting for benefits has plunged 37% since Trump returned to office, reversing the 24% spike that occurred during the Biden years.

July marked the first time VA completed over 300,000 claims in a single month, and they’re processing them 17.8% faster than last year despite a 10% increase in incoming claims. “Under President Trump, VA is making major improvements to better serve Veterans,” said VA Secretary Doug Collins.

The reforms go far beyond paperwork. Since January 20, VA has:

  • Opened 16 new healthcare clinics nationwide.
  • Offered nearly 1 million after-hours appointments.
  • Pumped $800 million into facility upgrades.
  • Streamlined access to non-VA care.
  • Fixed survivor benefit delays.
  • Restarted the stalled electronic health record system.

Trump’s VA also ended DEI spending, recovered $106 million in duplicate billings, brought tens of thousands of employees back to the office, and phased out gender dysphoria treatments — calling it a long-overdue common-sense move.

Bottom line: This is what happens when government focuses on results instead of political theater. Veterans are finally getting the service they earned — faster, better, and with accountability back in the driver’s seat.
