The House Ways & Means Committee pulled an all-nighter and came out swinging Wednesday morning, taking a bold step toward delivering President Donald Trump’s promise of “one big, beautiful bill.” After a marathon session that started Tuesday at 2 p.m. (because who needs sleep when you’re fixing the country), Republicans on the committee passed their portion of the legislation in a 26-19 party-line vote.
This bill isn’t just some patch-up job — it’s a full-on overhaul, combining massive tax cuts and real-deal spending reforms into one powerhouse package. It’s being crafted across 11 committees, each handling a piece of the puzzle. The Energy & Commerce Committee worked well into the night, while the House Agriculture Committee wrapped up around midnight, planning to hit it again Wednesday morning.

Now of course, the Democrats did what they do best — stall, protest, and push for amendments that are more about scoring political points than helping Americans. They flooded the session with proposals meant to trap Republicans in gotcha votes, but the GOP stood their ground and swatted them down like flies at a summer picnic.
Things got heated when the discussion turned to Medicaid. The Energy & Commerce Committee turned into a bit of a circus — complete with protestors shouting from the sidelines and 26 arrests. Yes, some were even in wheelchairs, and the media was quick to turn up the drama.
Inside the room, Democrats went into full meltdown mode, throwing out horror stories and accusing Republicans of wanting to rip away healthcare from poor Americans. Never mind that the GOP repeatedly made it clear: the goal is to cut out “waste, fraud, and abuse,” not hurt the people who genuinely need help. But let’s be real — when you’re losing the debate, scare tactics are easier than facts.

Committee Chairman Rep. Brett Guthrie (R-KY) tried to keep the conversation honest, urging folks to stop calling it “Medicaid cuts,” saying that kind of talk is just misleading. Naturally, Democrats claimed he was just sugarcoating the truth — because when your talking points fall apart, best to blame the packaging.
Still, Guthrie and his crew did their homework. They were asked to find $880 billion in savings — and they found over $900 billion. That’s not just responsible leadership, that’s good stewardship. If more people in D.C. handled money like that, we wouldn’t be staring at a $36 trillion national debt.
Next up: merging all the committee work into one unified bill for the full House to review. If Democrats thought the committee rooms were tough, just wait — the real battle is only beginning. But one thing’s for sure: the GOP is wide awake and ready to roll.
